A SERVICE OF WITNESS TO THE RESURRECTION

Blanche Anne Carpenter died age 89 on May 3, 2020 in Alexandria VA. Beloved wife of the late William (Bill) Carpenter, mother of Michael Carpenter, Joseph Carpenter, Amy Carpenter, and Carl Carpenter. Grandmother of Jeffrey Carpenter, Laura Auer, Jennifer Carpenter, and Kimberly Carpenter. Great-grandmother of Joshua Austin, Samantha Carpenter, Diamond Kelis Carpenter, Jude Auer, Kiera Carpenter, Cole Auer, and Dreamah Katilia Holloman. 

Blanche was born in Newark, NJ to parents Michael and Zuzanna Viparina. Upon completion of high school, she took a job with Prudential Insurance Company as a stenographer. When the Korean War broke out, she joined the U.S. Marine Corps as a Woman Marine. After boot camp training in Parris Island SC, she was sent on her first assignment to Camp Pendleton, CA. Her next tour of duty was in San Francisco serving as Administrative Aide to the Commanding General, Marine Corps Supply Depot. 

In San Francisco, she met and married Marine William Carpenter. In the early 60’s, the family settled down in Mount Vernon, VA. Blanche worked at Fort Belvoir as an Administrative Officer until her retirement. After retirement, she volunteered at the Fort Belvoir Thrift Shop for over 20 years. She was also a member of the Mount Vernon Quilt Guild. Her hobbies included hand quilting and gardening.
